A PLUS SUPPORTED EMPLOYMENT SERVICES

A program dedicated to the continous employment of the disabled community.

In 1936, the program for vocational rehabilitation was established under the Department of Instruction. Today, a separate entity has been established in Puerto Rico under the Department of Work and Human Resources. This entity is known as the Administration for Vocational Rehabilitation which is a state agency that receives funds from federal and state sources. Under the ammendment of the Rehabilitation Law of 1986, title VI-B is added to create a new program known by name as Supported Employment Services. This service aims to integrate people with dissabilities into the employed workforce with the objective of completing the rehabilitation of the individual while achieving competitive salaries and meaningful jobs.

MAVI has been contracted by the Administration for Vocational Rehabilitation to provide supported employment services in the San Juan area under the A-Plus proyect. A-Plus provides a host of integrated services in order to find job opportunities, prepare individuals for their job interviews, provide job training with the ultimate goal of providing stable employment for people with dissabilities. Consumers that which to participate on this program must fill a formal referral with the Administration for Vocational Rehabilitation. MAVI helps interested individuals by:

1) Helping them follow up on the referral to make sure the process is initiated by meeting the minimum requirements.

2) Identifying the counselor that has received the case for review and aid in the process.

3) Informing individuals when they have been officialy accepted into the program under MAVI's services.
